DHP Vocab

UNDER DEVELOPMENT

Made for memorization of words from DHP (Dhammapada). It is available for testing and feedback. Be sure to regularly download the latest content here.

This tool is recommended to be used together with the Dhammapada grammatical analysis

• Download the latest update

• Install Anki

• Double-click on the downloaded file dhp-vocab.apkg and it will appear in your Anki.

Recomended way of studying this deck:

• first read a selected vagga from the Dhammapada in the Pāḷi and in the analysis

• in Anki go to Browse

• Select the deck DHP Vocab in the left panel
• Select all card by Ctrl + A
• Right click and choose Toggle Suspend (Ctrl + J)

Now all cards are inactive for study.

• Select the deck DHP Vocab in the left panel
• Select the vagga by searching for name the of the vagga (e.g. appamādavaggo) in this deck or just number of Dhammapada (e.g. 016)
• Select all card by Ctrl + A
• Right click and choose Toggle Suspend (Ctrl + J)

Now all cards from selected vagga or DHP will appear in your Anki daily routine. After you finish them, you may repeat the process with another vagga and so on.

Updating existing deck without losing your statistics

!Important! Before doing anything, synchronize your collection across all your Anki devices. Go to Tools > Preferences > Syncing and enable “On next sync force changes in one direction”. This will provide a secure backup on the Anki cloud in case of any issues.

Usually it is enough just to double-click on the downloaded apkg file, and it will update in your Anki.

Only you need to remove outdated words

Special fields add-on

If you’re having trouble updating your deck, consider trying the Special Fields Add-on. Only install it if you’ve exhausted all other options.

Another method of updating

For those who have trouble updating Anki deck by simply clicking on the .apkg file, there is a reliable but somewhat complicated method for updating. This is especially useful for users with very old versions of the deck.

• download the latest csv file here.

• make sure that your filed list exectly the same as current filed list. You can check it in menu: Tools > Manage Note Types

• make sure that your card settings exectly the same as current card settings. You can check it in menu: Tools > Manage Note Types

• note that there are 3 different fields for card settings:
  1. FRONT TEMPLATE
  2. BACK TEMPLATE
  3. STYLE

Check that each of them matches current card settings.

• in the Anki click on File - Import

• choose downloaded dhp-vocab.csv

• choose Notetype - DHP Vocab ; Deck - DHP Vocab ; Existing notes - Update ; Match scope - Notetype

• double check everything, and click import

• now you are up-to-date.

• also make sure to remove outdated words
