SN 35.70 upavāṇasandiṭṭhikasutta

atha kho āyasmā upavāṇo yena bhagavā tenupasaṅkami... . ekamantaṃ

nisinno kho āyasmā upavāṇo bhagavantaṃ etadavoca: sandiṭṭhiko dhammo, sandiṭṭhiko dhammoti, bhante, vuccati. kittāvatā nu kho, bhante, sandiṭṭhiko dhammo hoti, akāliko ehipassiko opanayiko paccattaṃ veditabbo viññūhīti?

idha pana, upavāṇa, bhikkhu cakkhunā rūpaṃ disvā rūpappaṭisaṃvedī ca hoti rūparāgappaṭisaṃvedī ca, santañca ajjhattaṃ rūpesu rāgaṃ atthi me ajjhattaṃ rūpesu rāgoti pajānāti. yaṃ taṃ, upavāṇa, bhikkhu cakkhunā rūpaṃ disvā rūpappaṭisaṃvedī ca hoti rūparāgappaṭisaṃvedī ca, santañca ajjhattaṃ rūpesu rāgaṃ atthi me ajjhattaṃ rūpesu rāgoti pajānāti, evampi kho, upavāṇa, sandiṭṭhiko dhammo hoti akāliko ehipassiko opanayiko paccattaṃ veditabbo viññūhī ti.

Then the Venerable Upavāṇa approached the Blessed One….Seated to one side, the Venerable Upavāṇa said this to the Blessed One: It is said, Venerable Sir, a directly visible Doctrine, a directly visible Doctrine. In what way, Venerable Sir, is the Doctrine directly visible, immediate, inviting to come see for oneself, applicable, to be individually understood by wise persons?

Here, Upavāṇa, a monk having seen a form with the eye, is one experiencing the form and one experiencing lust for the form, and he understands the lust for forms existing internally [thus:] There exists for me internally lust for forms. Since, Upavāṇa, having seen that form with the eye, the monk is one experiencing the form and one experiencing lust for the form, and he understands the lust for forms existing internally [thus:] There exists for me internally lust for forms, in such a way, too, Upavāṇa, the Doctrine is directly visible, immediate, inviting to come see for oneself, applicable, to be individually understood by wise persons.
